Some sexually transmitted infections may occur when you come into contact with infected person even if they do not experience any symptom. It is important to know the signs and symptoms that a person may experience while suffering from STDs. Knowing about the symptoms will help you become aware that you have STD and also enable you to go for proper treatment at the earliest.
Symptoms of STDs may vary from person to person as the STD may be caused due to different bacteria, virus or a parasite. Depending upon the organism responsible for the spread of the STD, symptoms also vary. There are different types of STDs and for each STD, symptoms and signs will also be different. However, some symptoms that are common for all types of STDs are:

- Soreness
- Abnormal lumps or sores
- Itching
- Severe pain when urinating
- Unusual discharge from the genitals
If you have been infected with syphilis, which is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections caused by the spirochetal bacterium, you may first see a painless sore. An unusual sore called a chancre is an important sign of syphilis. It comes and goes away even without the use of any medicine. Sore may appear on the vaginal tract, penis or rectum. There are high chances that syphilis will spread when the infected person with the sore on his body engages in a sexual activity with his partner. Usually, there is only one chancre but in some cases, more than one sore may develop. It has a roundish appearance and it appears as if several layers of skin are missing. Some other common signs of syphilis are:
- Loss of thick patches of hair
- Loss of eyebrows
- A rash on any part of the body
- Rashes may develop on the palms of the hand or at the bottom of the feet
Most people infected with syphilis may not see any sign of syphilis initially as it is not accompanied with pain or any sickness. However, a person may feel sick after the chancre disappears or just before the rashes appear on the body. Sickness may also be felt after the hair starts growing back.
If you have been infected with gonorrhea and Chlamydia that are caused due to the bacteria, you may not experience any symptom initially as very often people infected with these STDs may not find any warning signs. However, some common symptoms of gonorrhea and chlamydia are:
- Discharge of a white fluid during urination
- Frequent urination
- Burning sensation while urinating
- Pain while urinating
Watch out for the common symptoms and signs of STDs and go for a complete medical check up in order to get treatment before it is too late.
